Kevin's eyes met the girl's from across the room. She gave a coquettish smile and turned her back to him. The sleeveless floral dress ended just above the knees and displayed a pair of spindly, pale legs.
He crossed the crowded room weaving his way through clusters of people mingling. The wedding reception was well underway with people dancing, eating, and socializing.
Kevin stopped by the girl who was talking to a boy about her age. He guessed she was college-aged by their conversation about classes. He took a canned soda and waited for them to finish. The boy saw a group of boys walking toward the exit, and he hurried off. Kevin stood alone next to the girl.
"I saw you looking at me," he said.
"You were looking first."
"I think you're very beautiful."
Her face turned red, and she looked away in embarrassment.
"Want to go outside?"
She smiled and nodded. Kevin took her hand and led her along the wall to the exit. They stepped outside into the summer heat.
"Will your boyfriend miss you," he asked.
She laughed. "I don't have a boyfriend. What about you?"
