As a preface, this is an original story I’m writing. I was writing a story some time ago but for various reasons I stopped writing it. When I got the writing bug again I gave up on it as there were various parts I wasn’t happy with, but didn’t want to completely abandon what I had started, so I made this. It’s sort of a spin-off/reboot sorta thing. I’m curious to see what people think.
This one is just as self-insert-y as the last one was, just as self-indulgent, but that’s all because I wrote them for my own enjoyment, a story that I can control and have fun with.
I’ll post a link to my PBWorks page in comments if you’d like to see the “prequels”, I guess you could call them.

*“Read outs look normal. Temps look a little high but everything looks good. Start it up.”*
*Multiple scientists are walking around the lab, wearing what look like combination radiation and heat protection suits. The lab they’re in is the size of an airplane hangar, and in the center is something like an opened fusion reactor, a multitude of massive tendril-like cables plugged into various areas of the casing for power. And within the casing is a small, floating liquid mass, shifting slightly as if alive. It’s black, an abyss floating on air, drawing the eye into the emptiness of its surface.*
