She stood across the room from him, and his heart began racing – he initially hadn’t noticed her standing there but saw a slight movement out of the corner of his eye. The room was lit with a red hue, originating from the atmosphere bar lights he’d strung up in the corners of his bedroom.

As he looked at her, he felt a strange sense of longing that he hadn’t felt for her in years. He was confused, a bit sad, as she reminded him of his younger days when life was so much more simple. He briefly wondered why she was here, but the curiosity quickly faded when she took a slow, graceful step towards him. He put his laptop on the nightstand and started to get up.

Without a sound, she was suddenly standing right in front of him, close enough that he could smell the vanilla perfume she was drenched in. He looked up at her from where he sat, taking in the sight of her – they hadn’t spoken in months, and it’d been even longer since they’d seen each other in person. Her hair fell over her shoulders, partially hiding her face from him.
