Barely a century ago, the immense majority of humans still resided on Gaia, which was known as Earth at that time. Men knew a lot about space already, but only a few companies, corporations, who were the main leaders of the human world, had the power to explore it. For decades they had kept jealously their technology in their property: subspace travel, instant coms, macro mining… And with billions of planets in the galaxy we now live in, the corporates had access to more resources than they could ever dream of.
However their power did not last. 91 standard years ago, The Benefactor gave access to space to the people. How did he do it? We don’t know. Who was he? No idea. But in barely a few years, half of the twenty billion people living on Vesta had set sail for the stars, in a limitless galaxy.
The corporations and governments tried to catch up to the people, control them, assert their power over them, but that soon turned out to be impossible. Any resource was now so cheap, diamond cost the same as dried meat. Any lone man with an access to manuals, to knowledge of technology, could have the same weapons as a mighty corporation… And with more rocky planets than citizens in the galaxy, installing surveillance systems was far too complicated. Resignated, Gaian governments fell back to their planet, and cut all ties with the outer space. No one knows what happens down there now, anyone getting into orbit gets instantly taken down… A few young people occasionally take flight and join our great territory, but usually don’t talk much of what is down there.
The galaxy is a space of freedom. You can’t even speak of opportunity because any societal ladder is no more. Money means nothing, because there isn’t much to sell, as anyone can go explore stranded systems outwards to find the same resources. And sex… Well, it isn’t worth much. No society and a very small concentration of population (that is a huge understatement) makes it so that privacy is always at reach. The number of people in the galaxy is so great, and everyone is at hand thanks to subspace travel, meaning it is easy to find a partner you like… And without governments, no laws either, meaning consent is of little importance…
The way of thinking about sex, especially on urban planets where you’ll find more people concentrated together, is that you’ll get it anyway, so you might as well enjoy it. Sexual freedom is the way to go. Cities have been built so you can have many spots to get private, and everyone is fine with public sex too… But be ready for a random to join in. The few rules and organisations put in place and respected by all have grouped any children and necessary workers apart from the rest of people, meaning you’re not disturbing anyone by having sex anyone in the “public” galaxy…

Hi guys!
Here is a small introduction to the world I have imagined: a frontier setting where the colonization of space is fairly recent. I have imagined and figured lots of stuff about how it could work, etc… And I don’t really know how to put it. So I guess I’ll do an AMA. Ask any questions (about the topic, please…) in the comments, or through DMs if you’re too shy, and I’ll do my best to answer everything…
