Chapter 47. The French kiss.
I’m often asked whether I connect with people outside of the online realm. The short answer is, yes. The longer answer is, yes, but it is selective and not something that I actively seek out. That said, I recently had the opportunity to experience a night with someone from the virtual world. Pierre (name changed) initially caught my attention with his charm, confidence, and kindness. He never saw me as just a body, but as a person with a life of my own, simply enjoying this wild ride here. Pierre always gave me the perfect blend of respect and arousal when he messaged. He shared that he was French, and what he did professionally. We spent time on zoom just talking and laughing about everything from sex to business to music and beyond. His voice was deep, calm, and soothing. I found myself lost in it when he laughed. After many months of chats and zooms, we decided to have dinner. Just dinner. No expectations for afterwards. And yet I think we both knew that the possibility of something more was in the cards.
We agreed on a date that worked, and he booked his travel arrangements. It felt surreal. As the date drew closer, my husband and I would stay up talking about the upcoming date, playing out different scenarios about what would transpire. Would we enjoy ourselves? Certainly so. We had spent enough time getting to know one another that clicking over drinks wasn’t a concern. But would we sleep together? That was the proverbial elephant in the room. I wasn’t sure. Not being one to sleep with someone on a first date, I didn’t know whether I (or he) would be comfortable with it. But it didn’t stop the fantasy from playing out for my husband and me, as we lost ourselves in the excitement of what was to come.
A few days before Pierre was to arrive, the nerves set in. We had plans to have dinner at an upscale restaurant, and we decided to meet at his hotel for a drink first. I tried on several dresses to see what felt right. My husband was just as excited for my date, helping me select just the right look from my dress, to heels, to lingerie. Just in case. Pierre kept me updated about his travel, and before I could blink, the day had arrived.
I stood in my bathroom, putting on the last touch of jewelry, giddy with nerves and excitement. My husband came in and handed me my purse, commenting on how stunning I looked. I wore an off-the-shoulders burgundy dress, that hugged my torso and breasts, but hung loosely at my hips. My husband pulled me to him and slipped his arms around my waist as he kissed me. “Have fun tonight,” he whispered. I promised him I would. He asked that I would message him throughout the evening to let him know I was safe and comfortable, and again I gave him my word. With a final kiss, he walked me to my car, sending me on my way to an unknown night that held so much promise.
My mind raced as I pulled into the hotel valet. I messaged Pierre who was in the lobby bar waiting for me. Then messaged my husband to let him know I had arrived safely. Smoothing my dress, I attempted to collect myself and walk calmly into the bar. By all outward appearances, I did well. But internally, my breathing was rapid when I saw him at a little table. He noticed me and stood, welcoming me with a warm hug. His arms felt good around me. Comfortable. Kind. We sat and ordered a round of drinks. Both bourbons. It felt good to have a commonality from the start.
As we chatted, my nerves calmed. He was just as charming in person as all our prior messages had been. Maybe more. I loved the ease with which we conversed – there was never a lull or drag in our conversation. I found myself blushing from time to time as Pierre nonchalantly wove in sweet compliments while we sipped our drinks. His phone buzzed and he mentioned that it was time to head to our reservations. The uber drive was a bit long, but it gave us time to continue chatting. Our hands rested on the empty seat between us, casually touching, making my mind race as to whether he’d reach out to take a hold of my hand. I ran my pinky along his, but just as he began to touch my hand, we arrived at the restaurant.

I excused myself to freshen up in the ladies’ room before ordering and messaged my husband. He was thrilled that I was enjoying myself and encouraged me to have fun and see where the night led. No pressure, but also no limitations. It was the most incredible feeling. As I walked back to the table, Pierre was looking at the drink menu. We decided on drinks and began to talk about the dinner. I quickly discovered that his palate was more experienced with exotic cuisine. We shared a good laugh over some of the dishes he had sampled over the years. But, being one for adventure myself, and at his recommendation, we ordered some appetizers that I had never tried before.
To say the dinner was delicious would be an injustice. The food was incredible, only made better by the banter that was shared over it. We ordered coffee and I noticed that at some point during dinner we had shifted a bit closer to one another in the booth we shared. Our hands once again found themselves slightly touching, only this time Pierre moved to hold mine. His thumb ran over my skin and for the first time all night we sat momentarily in silence. It was comfortable, yet unnerving. The moment of truth was upon us. We had to return to the hotel, at the very least for me to get my car. The only question was, how much time would transpire before then.
Pierre ordered a ride back, and we once again found ourselves in a back seat together. But now, we sat much closer. My legs were crossed, and I rested my hands on my dress. Before we had pulled out to the main road, Pierre’s hand found mine in my lap. I looked at him and he smiled. Returning a grin, I squeezed his hand, letting him know I was comfortable. He then released my hand and ran his fingers along my crossed leg. His grip was firm as he massaged down my calf to my ankle, tracing along the edge of my heels and squeezing the arch of my foot. The sensation was electric. I wanted more. My hands rubbed his arm as he continued to work his fingers over my legs. I was almost disappointed when we arrived at the hotel, as I wasn’t ready for the ride to end just yet.
Walking through the lobby, he reached for my hand and asked whether I’d be interested in another drink. I took a deep breath and threw caution to the wind. “Well, we’ve already had drinks in the bar, and as lovely as that was, you mentioned that your room had a spectacular view, so you could show me that instead.” Pierre turned on a dime and led me toward the elevator bank without a word. My heart pounded as the doors opened, knowing that we’d be in his room in minutes. As the doors closed, Pierre took my hand and pulled me to him. He cradled my face gently as he leaned in for a kiss. A deep kiss. His tongue entered my mouth and explored me in intimate ways. I gripped his arms and pulled him into me, returning the kiss with my own fervor.
The intrusive ding of the elevator ended our kiss and we looked at one another before stepping out into the hallway. I breathed in deeply as he led the way to his room, a calm sensation washed over me as he opened the door. The view from his room was indeed beautiful, but I didn’t spend much time absorbing it. I was too anxious about what was to come. Excusing myself to freshen up once again, I went to the restroom and messaged my husband. He was thrilled that we had made our way to the room and told me to enjoy myself. And to give him my panties. I smiled. I had every intention to do so.
