However, Omar has a sister who leads a very unconventional lifestyle” – this is the WRITING PROMPT of the essay that the participants of the writing activity received – the rest is what I produced. “Omar’s sister is a lesbian. She is so passionate about her sexual orientation that she wants to earn money by uploading her video content on special websites. One day she invites her partner to cooperate on a project and then upload it on the Internet. They do so successfully. The video gets very popular in Iran and neighboring countries. Omar’s father, a very perverted person, surfs on the Internet, watching one video after another. All of a sudden, the father comes across to that very video and goes downstairs to find his gun. He looks for it for an hour, then seven hours, then realizes that his daughter is just another perverted person, and they could become good partners and make a name for themselves in the industry, breaking all the stereotypes.
My comments:
The story is about Mia Khalifa, who despite being born in a conservative Middle Eastern country, decides to pursue what she is most passionate about. She explores her sexuality and faces the hypocritical side of many Middle Eastern people who despite consuming pornography, target those producers who they perceive have committed a “crime against God”. This is a story about freedom of expression and hypocrisy. If the father’s train of thought sounded illogical to you, I’d like to say that I attempted to ridicule him through incest as in a patriarchal society like that of Iran men are the head of the family and therefore the incest thing is primarily the father’s fault. Perhaps a close-reading or two was necessary for you to identify the ironic devices.
