How to write Erotica?

Can I write Erotica? And How?

This was posted in a writing group, but someone got triggered and got deleted with no reason.

I don’t understand reddit, therefore I have a hard time reading rules and small things. If this post is not fit for this group, please teach me where to post it or if I have to edit it, please tell me before it’s deleted.

*Original post*

I was 12 years old when I moved to the U.S.
The language sounded beautifully, and the words looked luxurious. As if it was a tongue that only the rich could speak.

I bought an English-Spanish dictionary and began to write my first book. Kissing scenes were too much for my young heart, and holding hands was enough to make me blush.
My book was 40k words, but now that I think about it… it wasn’t that good.

I didn’t learn all the rules of grammar, where to put commas, and how to make a good use of a thesaurus. It’s funny how I tried to describe a simple scene while using lots of “high-class,” words. Until this day, as a 22 year old, English is a big struggle, but my passion for writing is even bigger. I know, I’m stubborn.

I’m now taking care of my mother and due to her illness I can’t leave her alone.

Now that I have some free time, I wonder if I can make 50-100$ a month? Would that be too much? Could my writings be worth a cent?

Sure, I love writing and I put all of my feelings into it. I spend hours browsing for the right words, editing my work, and trying to figure out if my sentences are correct, but I know that I’m not that good.

My friend once told me, “Write Erotica. Try it out!”

I was reluctant and began to read a famous book called Fifty Shades of Gray.

I KNOW! Many hate this book for different reasons. I, as a good friend, followed my friend’s advice. Was this a good example of Erotica? Maybe not, but what can I do? I was ignorant.

I told my friend, “there’s no way I can write such thing. I don’t have the qualities nor the experience! I won’t write Erotica. I’m a virgin, what the heck will I write about? The imaginary vagina or penis I have never seen? I won’t write it.”
.
.
.
And now, moving to the important questions:
What does it take to write an Erotica? How long should it be? Is it only porn or can I introduce romance? Is character development important? How and where do I sell it? What about the cover of the book? Can I earn 50$ a month? Should I pay someone to rewrite my work so that I don’t have mistakes?

I know. Writing is more of a passion than a job, but I take my writing seriously even though my skills are crap and it can be seen clearly through this post. I take my hours and weeks doing research on a specific topic. I try to do better and worry if my readers will like it. I pour all of my feelings into my fanfictions or original stories… but can I make it? Can I put my passion and work out there for a few cents?

I’m not sure if I can share a link of one of my first “Erotica,” tryouts that I did before.
It’s more of a romance than erotica, but I was too shy and began to beat around the bush.

I wrote this while I was extremely angry and I know that I could have done better, but this is what I’m willing to share. The descriptions aren’t good, everything is all over the place. It’s unrealistic, and too short. It looks like a description of a gay-porn scene a 13-year old tried to describe while being half blind.

Please let me know if posting a link for feedback is allowed.

  1. I have no idea of what, if any money can be had by this.
But, as for “how”? Read! Here, Literotica.com and asstr.org all have many, many stories, with sometimes wildly varying quality. Read to learn what does and doesn’t work well for you. Learn from others mistakes and successes.
Your writing and language ability are fine. Join and submit some stories to Literotica and encourage feedback.
Once you become a bit more known there, you might be able to reach out to other writers and ask more.
