  1. Personally, if its not a novel length, I’d prefer it in one post. If it is truly LONG and it gets split up, then (and I think I speak for everyone here) don’t make it be weeks or months between chapters. Roll them out.

  2. I’m personally a fan of series, so long as each installment can act as a self contained story. Not self contained in the sense that you can read chapter 5 with no knowledge of 1-4 without feeling like you’ve missed anything (or going from chapter to chapter without feeling any sense of continuous plot), I just mean writers should try to avoid *purely* expositional posts, or short posts that just end in a cliffhanger like “oh boy, what happened next was crazy…”.

If your story needs *that much* exposition, break it up. If there’s some facet fo a character or setting that isnt *directly relevant* to the action of the chapter, put a pin in it and introduce it when that element comes into focus in the story. For example; if the first chapter of a story is all about a character’s home life, or events that are taking place in their home, it’s not necessary to get into the details of their job/hobbies/family/past experiences unless the chapter relies on that knowledge (coworkers/family visiting, they’re engaging in one of their favorite activities, their outlook on certain situations is informed by their profession/field of study, etc).
